This was a tricky light setup. I was looking into the setting sun, and it was rimming the train and the watertower and the tracks and the trees. That sunlit outline provided a nice way to link up all the lights. I also used the smoke as a light bridge. Together, the lights form an elongated oval, with the bright clouds and bright tracks as its upper and lower boundaries.

The flow of light here goes from the model’s hair down her robed arm to her knees, and then splits out in two directions, one side going to the pot and one going to the fan and chair.

This picture was difficult because so much of the model was in shadow. The only way to describe what’s going on in her upper body is through reflected light. The light shining up from her knees becomes the light source for her torso, making all the underplanes the brightest part of that shadow area.
